attempt at an arty shot :-/ |
there is no light today so apologies for the rubbish photos |
I finished the straight line quilting (1/4" lines in white, then green, then grey) on Monday and then had the hardest time deciding on a backing. Many fabrics were trialled and I almost used a treasured Melody Miller print but then I thought it would be better (and more summery!) if I used the same fabric as the pop of colour on the front so Heather Bailey Pop won out. I was planning of a hidden zip along one of the seams but couldn't for the life of me work out how to do it so I used Jude's great tute and did a covered zip back. I lined the back too (more puzzles!). Of course, I have since worked out the hidden zipper thing (at about 3am yesterday morning!) - oh well, next time. I was worried about the size (finished at a little over 19" square) especially when I used the cheap IKEA filler I had - not much padding. So I bought a plumper 20" filler and it looks much better.
I am super chuffed with this cushion/pillow and it goes really well in our living room. My partner is silent so I just have to hope that she feels the same as the kind commenters on Flickr. I think I will be making this again - maybe with a little more planning, or maybe not ;-)
This Saturday is the East Midlands Modern Quilt Guild meeting and I can't wait. I think this cushion may be taken to present in the Show and Tell section #proudmum.
Edited to add link to Finish it up Friday over at Crazy Mom Quilts
It looks fab, great work! And make sure you bring it Saturday so I can see it :o). And can I just say, that title made me think of Mongrels the BBC TV Series, hilarious, so you also put a smile on my face, thx!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love this. And I adore that green chair! Silent partners make life veeeery difficult - mine has been too :o(
ReplyDeleteIt is really beautiful - lucky partner! I love the pop of colour and the quilting.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous! Love the straight line quilting. Your swap partner is a lucky lady! Gordon Burns stayed on telly for years if you lived in the North West - he did the regional news. Not sure if he still does but he was always my favourite!
ReplyDeleteit looks so beautiful - the quilting is perfect. I'm sure your partner will love it!
ReplyDeleteYay! It's done! And it's completely gorgeous. And I need it! I reckon your partner will really love it. x
ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous. I am looking forward to seeing it 'in the flesh'. Di x
ReplyDeleteOh wow - this is so 'me'. I wish I was your partner!!!! I is gorgeous !
ReplyDeleteWell you know I love it - Ha! My partner still hasn't surfaced and she hasn't even posted pictures of what she's making either.. weird! You know this is the kind of thing I'd make and my husband would say "Did you do that triangle on the front wrong" and I'd have to slowly, painfully try and explain! :-)
ReplyDeleteFantastic Moira, how could your partner not love it!
ReplyDeleteGreat pillow, Moira! I really like that pop of colour, and the quilting is perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally gorgeous. Your partner is going to be so happy.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cushion! Its always such a shame when you get a silent partner in a swap :-(
ReplyDeleteThe backing on your pillow is one of my favorite prints ever! I hope your partner speaks up:) Cuz it is certainly wonderfully done!
ReplyDeleteI have bee searching for pieces of the pop garden collection to match quilts for my 2 grandaughters. If you have anymore of this fabric and would be interested in selling some, please contact me. Tatc@embarqmail.com
ReplyDeleteFabulous cushion. Love the piecing.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and I love the pop of red on the front. Great choice for the backing too!
ReplyDeleteIT's MINE! Moira, I cannot tell you how lovely your whole package was, and how perfect this pillow is for me! It's just my style, and I love the straight line quilting you did. The green in there is actually the exact some color as my couch! And of course, I love all the grays and how it fades to whites. Just stunning!!!!! Way to knock it out of the park on your first PTS! I seriously could not want any other pillow in this round more than yours! And sorry I didn't comment more, but I did favorite this pillow as soon as I spotted it in the group. I remember thinking that there was no way I would be lucky enough to get it, but I wanted to copy the style :) I'll post a picture in the group soon. THANK YOU x100!!! You have a VERY happy partner!
