Whilst everyone was sewing and in between my crap storytelling and monsterous cake eating, I was thinking about a quilt I saw on Pinterest that I want to make for a dear work colleague and his lovely wife.....
So simple but really pretty. I cracked open my EQ7, blew some of the dust off and worked out how to make it really quickly - two block types: a nine patch and a square with triangle corners (well I understand what I mean ;)). I made each block size 9 1/2inches unfinished. Here are the colour options:

I've always fancied making a red and white quilt - classic |
something a little funkier? |
edited to add (as I'm linking up with Rebecca today, if the technical issues get sorted)
Aren't you clever! I love the mustard but the red and white is striking too! I think it'd work with patterns as well but I like the simplicity of the solids x
ReplyDeleteVery cool design! Love the bottom one - it could look good with a print in the centre of the square with triangle corners blocks (snowball block?) with a closely matched solid for the teal part of the 9patches... Does that make sense? And now you've got me wanting cake ;o)
ReplyDeleteLove it - especially the bottom one and think it owuld great in either choice.
ReplyDeleteI like the red and white. Solids would be quicker.....but a mixture of red prints would be more interesting perhaps.
ReplyDeleteWow, great pattern. I love how it looks in solids.
ReplyDeleteMoira, I love the red and white. It would be lovely in solids or prints. I like the quilt in the photo done up in solids.
ReplyDeleteSo that was what you were doing whilst eating cake! I thought you were interested in the chat....now I know otherwise!!! The quilt pattern is really effective. My choice would be to stick to one colour and use different fabrics of that colour against a plain background so that the pattern really is the central attraction. Di x
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I can see why you want to make one. Look forward to seeing it, pattern or plain.
ReplyDeleteI love the pattern! Solids look great but I think it would also work well with patterns if you stuck to one colour. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
ReplyDeleteha ha - glad you liked the cake.... I might not be able to sew a dresden pinwheel block, but I can bake a Victoria sandwich!!! I have a bit of a thing for the norwegian red and white colour scheme, perhaps with some solids and some patterned reds amidst the white.... I will watch this space with interest x
ReplyDeleteI think solids definitely. Its a fabulous pattern
ReplyDeleteIt's a great pattern Moira! Love the mustard, so pretty, very tempting to do complete so.ids, but would equally good, same colour, close value fabrics :)
ReplyDeleteAnd gutted I missed the cake!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool. Crazy, I've been sitting at EQ7 for the last couple of nights playing with nine patches, D9P, and blocks with one or two or all corners off, but I never came up with that, and it ROCKS. Love the mustard. How would it look if you did the mustard bits white (or a solid) and the rest in prints, either scrappy or one colour group?
ReplyDeleteI could eat cake every day. In fact, I prefer to. It's one of my favourite food groups! (Though "I looove the cake!" from Little Britain will be stuck in my head for days…)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt design is great and I have to say I'm completely drawn in to the yellow and blue. I'd be tempted to go with prints but just one blue print and one yellow… Yes? No?
Mmm, cake. Keep reading cakewrecks.com atm and getting hungry! I'd go with the orange and white :)
